early arrivals

Anyone know when we need to send our names to the early arrival list? Last year I ran into some trouble at the gate, as a couple people in my car didn't make the deadline.

BMorg will send out a couple of calls for our early arrivals list. Since I will be one of the people getting them, I can promise that they won't be a secret.

But because early arrivals before Saturday cost extra money (beyond the basic BLM attendee fee), there is an understanding that those people will be just the ones needed to erect a complex art piece or something like that. People simply wanting to arrive early would be presuming too much.

Posties intending to help with construction of the facade should send the General a PM to that effect and copy me on it or send a note to me either on tribe or through the Topica list and I will get it to the General. I imagine the General will choose his crew and I will do my best to make reliable arrangements for our early arrivals. I think it would be unethical for people to represent that they will be there to help with construction and general BRCPO organization and then disappear once they get inside the gate.

Last year, BMorg did a perfectly terrible job of keeping things straight with regard to our information and, from the outrage that circulated around the theme camps list and its back channels, a lot of other people had that experience also. I am hoping this year's earlier application deadline and everything that follows from that will lead to a smoother set up.

i hope to be back and forth to the playa all summer and you can bet I want to be on earlys list...Set up is great but how many can stay after Exodus for breakin camp and moopin out is where we see who is truely INTO beein at burningman...Last year Gen and several of us worked at it for three or four days before we were done cleaning up..
Its been rumoured by us goodie goodie moopie slaves that most of our sainted camp is a wee bit slop assed? SCANDAL!! I would love to see a price break for the maids of the brcpo..a smattering of tickets for the smattering of dust sucking left overs that did the dump run..did the load in..and still were denied access to a port a potty in Rangerville.

*** Crosspost from Topica list ***

Dear Postal Family (this means you!) --

The calm of the summer solstice was shattered by a precipitous announcement from BMorg that early arrivals will be much more restricted this year. My understanding is that the requests of many camps have been summarily dismissed with no appeal, but we are not in that group of unfortunates (if anybody planning on taking up residence in BRC can actually be called "unfortunate"). Just how our early arrival situation will develop is somewhat uncertain, however.

BMorg's Placement Team says last year was too chaotic to be repeated. They'll get no argument from me about that, since pre-arrival communication was beyond surreal and the faithful remnants of the NZI (our construction team) had to deal with a redrawn camp footprint upon arrival and other annoyances. Their strategy for dealing with that this year is to dramatically limit the number of early arrivals, both during the week and on the weekend.

The General will once again take charge of construction and will have the final say on who is on his team and thus on the early arrival list. Since construction does not begin before the General arrives, our early arrival start time will be the General's Estimated Time of Arrival. At his request, I will (in my capacity of Keeper of Lists) forward all requests for early arrival to him. Since we have to get everything in to BMorg by June 25 (yeah, the long lead time has me impressed also), this is all going to have to happen in the next day or two.

I realize this is short notice and rather cumbersome, but as Hedwig says, I work with what I've got. Being that I am an organizer of another event with a number of international participants (www.reconnext.org--you're all invited), I have a full weekend of visa documentation & other things ahead, so this all could be a little ragged. I'll post a list of who has requested early arrival in a day or so. No guarantees of anything, since BMorg will decide the final list, I hope everyone understands.
