The whole BRCPO list on Topica was killed accidentally or on purpose. I have revived it as an open list, so anyone can rejoin. (As before, list member addresses will not be public.) We can decide later if the list settings need to be changed.
I am corresponding with Topica about getting our archives back.
While this all begs the question of whether tribe.net is a better place for BRCPO discussions, I find myself leaning toward using the Topica format as we have in the past.

Re: BRCPO list revived on Topica
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 1:01 PMHey Greg, thanks for moving on that. The archives are precious. And why we didn't download the whole list of e-mail addresses (they are viewable by owners of the list, I was one once...).
It would be good to get the list archive and membership back up at about the time of burning man this year before people were purged... if you're talking to them, see if you can do that.
If not, I'd rather start a new yahoo group. I'm on about 50 different Yahoo groups. They're simple to administer/participate in. I'm not on any Topica ones....
soup of the day... coffee :)
btw, we could also just use this forum, it's neat cause it's threaded and as long as BoyChaos leaves the list here, we're good to go...

Re: BRCPO list revived on Topica
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 3:57 PMYikes! The archives lost? Not a good thing as topica may have to restore from a tape backup. I actually deal with this sort of thing on a regular basis as Chair of the Preservation Committee for the Association of Moving Image Archivists (see AMIANET.org). Do whatever you can with Topica at least to recover the email list.
This sort of thing is an on-going problem in our modern world.
I feel it's a good idea to maintain both forums so that there is at least a chance that we won't lose contact if one service or the other collapses or has another catastrophic failure. I would also suggest that if you are able to recover the archives and the associated email addresses, you immediately send out notification to the topica users that they need to sign up again and at the same time suggest they join tribe. I know it's redundant, but it'll keep the fires burning. -

Re: BRCPO list revived on Topica
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 10:03 PMI like the redundancy idea concept.
I remember how everything got turned upside down on me when usa.net, which I depended on, had a change in management philosophy.
Still corresponding with Topica. They may need to send some kind of notification to Renie and then wait for an answer. They think they can recover the archives. -

Has there been any traffic on the list, recently?
